The Infrastructure Academy is an exciting and inspiring one-year after-school program that provide hands-on real life experience, field trips, career preparation, and job placement opportunities for rewarding careers in industries that provide water, energy, and infrastructure in our communities, such as the LA Department of Water and Power.

Students that participate in the Infrastructure Academy earn college credit, gain real-world, hands-on experience, and learn about different technical and engineering careers. The cost is completely free for students. All costs for travel, field trips and food will be covered by the Infrastructure Academy and its partners. Summer Internships are paid and are for related professional work. In addition, students will receive a total stipend of up to $300 based on overall program attendance.

Students will generally attend two days per week (on either Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesdays and Thursdays). Paid summer internships or search for full time work will occur in the summer of 2009. The program will also include interesting industry field trips, community service projects, and outdoor trips, which will happen about one weekend per month.

The Infrastructure Academy is scheduled to run in three different college sites after school. Students will be assigned only to one site that would be convenient for them to go to after school. These sites are: Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and Cal. State University-LA. The next programs for the Los Angeles Trade Technical College and the Cal. State University-LA sites will begin in September 2008 and will run through May 2009.

Orientation information

All Infrastructure Academy admitted students are required to attend a mandatory program orientation on one of the following dates at the student’s assigned site. This orientation is for you and your parents. We will review program requirements, calendar, and other details as a participant in the program.
